Yes — the self-collection method is fully validated and includes clear visual instructions for accuracy
Results are typically available within up to 7 business days after your sample arrives at the lab.
No — it can be used for recurrent or unexplained anal symptoms and as a targeted check-up in high-risk contexts (e.g. receptive anal sex, history of STIs).
Because co-infections are very common. Testing everything from a single sample allows for more accuracy, fewer misses, and fewer recurrences.
Empiric treatment and fragmented testing can miss co-infections and important patterns (inflammation, microbiological imbalance, ulcers, HPV).
ProctoScreen integrates multiple agents and methods in one test, supporting more precise and personalised care.
Many anorectal sexually transmitted infections (STIs) – especially rectal chlamydia and gonorrhoea – are often asymptomatic and can only be detected through laboratory testing. This means that even without obvious pain, bleeding or discharge, relevant infections may still be present.
When there is a history of receptive anal contact (oral–anal, digital–anal or genital–anal), screening for anorectal infections is generally recommended as part of standard STI care. Condom use does not fully eliminate the risk, as many STIs can be transmitted without penile penetration.
Recent European guidelines also highlight emerging and often overlooked causes of proctitis (such as lymphogranuloma venereum, Mycoplasma genitalium and traumatic causes), reinforcing the need for structured, multimethod assessment rather than relying on symptoms alone.
ProctoScreen responds to this by offering a comprehensive anal health panel in a single test, helping to detect asymptomatic or atypical infections early and to support evidence-based management.
